Wyoming Legislature’s New Bills

The Wyoming Legislature passed five bills to address rising residential property taxes, creating new exemptions for homeowners, veterans, and senior citizens.

The new bills by the Wyoming Legislature will also be capping annual increases, and expanding eligibility for a state refund program.

Lawmakers were largely united on this issue, and the Wyoming Legislature’s bills now await Governor Mark Gordon’s decision.

According to a published article by SmartNews, property taxes fund local services, so balancing relief for homeowners with revenue for public services is a challenge.

Voters may have the opportunity to separate residential property taxes in the future.

Barely Passing A Balanced Budget

In a published article by WyoFiles, the Wyoming Legislature barely passed a balanced budget, with a close vote in the Senate and a more comfortable margin in the House.

Governor Mark Gordon urged lawmakers to fulfill their constitutional duty to pass a budget, that includes $709 million in savings, funding for school construction, and restrictions on funding for certain university programs.

The session with the Wyoming Legislature was marked by tension, with a leadership shakeup in the Senate sparking concerns about a budget fight. Despite challenges, the budget proposed by the Wyoming Legislature was ultimately approved.
