Nissan Leaf Recertified for Federal Tax Credit in 2024
According to Auto blog, Nissan Leaf is an affordable electric car known for its aging yet appealing design has received recertification from the US government. This recertification makes it eligible for a federal tax credit of $3,750 for the year 2024. Until December 31, 2023, the Leaf was only eligible for half of the full $7,500 federal incentive which expired at the end of 2023. To regain eligibility Nissan had to ensure that its battery components met the latest requirements outlined by the IRS.
The Leaf now joins a small group of 11 new electric vehicle (EV) models in the US that qualify for a federal tax credit with only seven of them eligible for the full $7,500 credit. To qualify for the credit customers must meet certain purchase and income criteria outlined in IRS code Section 30D including the vehicle being assembled in North America and meeting specific mineral and battery component requirements. Nissan states that the current Leaf models with two trim levels are assembled in Smyrna, Tenn. and must be built in 2024 and purchased from March 6 onwards to be eligible for the tax break.
