Concerns About The Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit

Some Oklahomans have raised concerns about the use of money from the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit, stating that it has been used to pay off debts before going toward their child’s tuition.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission confirmed rules regarding the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit, stating that if someone owed delinquent taxes or other debts to the Tax Commission, the credit payment would be reduced accordingly.

Senator Julia Kirt criticized the lack of transparency in this process regarding the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit. Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat has introduced a bill to address these issues and clean up the legislation involving the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit.

According to a published article by SmartNews, the bill that is for the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit focuses on back taxes but is not specific about other potential debts owed. The said bill concerning the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit has not been heard on the Senate floor yet.
