Two Sets Of Requirements For SNAP Retailers

The Food and Nutrition Delivery Safety Act has the SNAP as an integral lifeline for working families in the country. It ensures that the workers, delivering the SNAP benefits to its recipients, shall be given fair salaries and good working conditions by its employer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) determines which retailers can be authorized as SNAP retailers, but according to My ChesCo, there are no mandatory standards yet for safe food delivery or fair employee wages.

The new legislation also requires the SNAP retailers to ensure that the SNAP groceries are safely delivered to its recipients and the recipient’s online date is protected. USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), in collaboration with the FDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy shall set standards that would emphasize user data protection and cybersecurity.

Potential Benefits And Challenges Of Food And Nutrition Delivery Safety Act

Endorsed by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), it strongly believes that workers serving the SNAP recipients should receive fair salaries. Its International President, Marc Perrone, is encouraging the Congress to pass the new legislation.

The proposed bill shows potential benefits which are enhanced digital security for the SNAP recipients and improved labor conditions to the workers. However, it should also be noted that there are also potential challenges for the business partners such as increased costs and there will be industry sectors who will show resistance.
