Minnesota Department of Revenue’s Announcement

The Minnesota Department of Revenue will be sending out a third round of tax rebate checks to about 128,000 qualified recipients. The previous rounds of checks sent out by the Minnesota Department of Revenue were voided because they were not cashed within the allotted 60-day window.

The rebates from the Minnesota Department of Revenue are part of a $1 billion giveback program approved last session, and the outstanding payments amount to approximately $48 million. Unlike the previous checks made by the Minnesota Department of Revenue, these will come from the state agency and recipients will have two years to cash them.

According to a published article by SmartNews, however, there is frustration over the IRS’s decision to tax the rebate checks from the Minnesota Department of Revenue, as recipients will owe between $26 to $57 on their federal taxes. State leaders from the Minnesota Department of Revenue tried lobbying the IRS to no avail.

Taxpayers who believe they should have received a rebate but haven’t by May 1 should contact the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

Resending Of Checks

In a published article by CBS News, some people were confused by the unmarked envelope and the fact that the checks were sent from Montana where the state contracted with Submittable Holdings, a company responsible for sending them. The department plans to resend the checks with their name on the envelope to avoid confusion.
