A $1 million fund was approved by the Palm Springs City Council to extend more help through their rental assistance program.

Approval By The Palm Springs City Council

The Palm Springs City Council has unanimously approved an additional $1 million in funding for a rental assistance program. The program approved by the Palm Springs City Council provides aid to residents who earn less than 80% of the area’s median income and are at risk of homelessness.

Since its approval by the Palm Springs City Council, the program has assisted 202 households, including 46 facing eviction. The initial $1 million approved and allocated by the Palm Springs City Council for the program has been used primarily for rental assistance, with a smaller portion used for utilities.

According to a published article by SmartNews, the Palm Springs City Council members expressed support for the program but requested more data to evaluate its effectiveness.

The program approved by the Palm Springs City Council is designed to provide short-term assistance and covers up to four months of unpaid rent or three months of prospective rent. The Palm Springs City Council also discussed promoting other utility discount programs.
