According to SSA, supplemental security income will be paid to both disabled and elderly people “whose income and assets are below certain economic limits.” One of the key requirements to receive benefits is that the person must be at least 65 years of age and be blind or disabled eligible under the SSA. On the other hand, Social Security Disability Insurance is issued to people who have a disability and are unable to work because of their disability. The requirements and amounts for receiving benefits depend on the type of disability and the recipient’s work history. SSI payments are issued on the 1st of each month. If the first day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the Social Security Administration will issue monthly SSI checks on the previous business day to ensure recipients receive their checks by the first day of the month, the agency said. The first benefit is paid out on the second Wednesday of each month to those born between the 1st and 10th of their birth month. A second wave of checks is always sent on the third Wednesday of each month to people born between the 11th and 20th of their birth month. The third payment is sent on the 4th Wednesday of each month to those born between the 21st and 31st of their birth month.
