Target is known to be one of the biggest grocery retail stores in the U.S. However, several unknowing Target customers may wonder, “does Target accept EBT cards for SNAP food purchases?” The answer is, yes. Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards are accepted as payment for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) purchases at authorized Target stores.

According to Nesbit, Target customers can user their EBT cards to purchase food like fruit, vegetables, meat, juice, milk, cereal, whole wheat bread, grains, canned fish, and more. Most Target stores label the items that can be purchased by customers with their EBT cards. Unfortunately, items that are not from the grocery or most energy drinks are removed from the list of what can be bought through EBT cards.

Paying for SNAP food purchases through EBT cards is quite simple. Once the buyer reaches the operated register, eligible products for SNAP must be separated from the other items. The cashier will then process the SNAP products first. Thereafter, payments may be made by swiping the EBT card and entering the PIN. At self-checkout, the SNAP products do not need to be separated from the other items anymore.
