To date, t is the biggest program working to reduce hunger in America. On the contrary, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is a program that grants states and territories with funds. These funds are used to provide families with financial assistance and services. Programs administered by the states may include childcare and work assistance, as reported by Benefits.gov.

Differences Between SNAP and TANF

According to Nadelle, there are several differences between SNAP and TANF. From what types of benefits these programs provide, how these benefits are distributed, and even how long is needed to wait to receive these benefits, SNAP and TANF differ from each other. Fortunately, even though both the programs have differences, one can receive benefits from both the programs at the same time.

To be eligible for SNAP, the requirements differ among the states. However, in most cases, a household must meet the gross and net income requirements stated on the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website. On the contrary, to be eligible for TANF, income is taken into consideration. An applicant must be unemployed or underemployed. They must also have a child age 18 or below, or be pregnant, or be a child age 18 or below.
