The year 2023 is only a few days away and with it comes financial assistance programs from the states of Massachusetts, California, and Virginia that will offer residents with direct payments of up to $500. All programs from the three states will use funds they have received concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. The payments will be received on a monthly basis, but some families will receive more money depending on the size of their household and whether they are seniors or veterans, as reported by Notheis.Massachusetts
The CHELSEA EATS program is for the residents of Chelsea, Massachusetts. The amount of payment to be received will be based on the size of the applicant’s household. A one-person household will receive $200, while two people will receive $300. For households with three or more people, they will receive $400. To be eligible, household income must be at or less than 30% of the Area Median Income and applications must be submitted on or before January 6, 2023. Recipients of the payments will be chosen via a weighted lottery. However, applicants who are senior citizens, veterans, and those with children under 18 or disabled dependents will be preferred. After all applications are received on January 6, applicants must wait up to four weeks to process the winners.
California
The Coachella Immigrant Families Recovery program of Coachella, California is a collaboration between the city and the Mission Asset Fund. This program will provide $400 to 140 immigrants with low incomes and will be on a monthly basis for up to two years. The deadline for application for this program has already ended last November 11. Recipients of the payments will depend on who needs the program’s benefits the most. The budget of this program is under the American Rescue Plan Act and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. Approvals of applications should have started today and payments are expected to be issued starting in January.
Virginia
Alexandria’s Recurring Income for Success and Equity (ARISE) is a program in Alexandria, Virginia. This program will randomly choose 170 eligible applicants and provide them with $500 every month for two years. To qualify for this program, applicants must be residents of Alexandria, be at least 18 or older, and earn 50% or below Alexandria’s Area Median Income. Applications for this program have already ended last November 9.
