As the holiday season winds down, Target is giving shoppers extra time to pick up those last-minute gifts. The retailer will stay open until 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, offering two additional hours of shopping time compared to its usual 10 p.m. closing time. This is still a full two hours longer than Walmart, which will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Until then, Target is operating extended hours, with all locations open from 7 a.m. to midnight, allowing plenty of time to finish up gift shopping. However, on Christmas Day, all 1,963 Target stores will be closed, giving employees a chance to enjoy the holiday with their families after a busy shopping season.
For those who miss the chance to shop in person on Christmas Eve, Target’s website remains available for online shopping, with options for delivery or collection after the holidays.
Other Retailers Closing for Christmas Day
Target is not alone in closing its doors on Christmas Day. Other major retailers, including Dollar Tree, Costco, and Trader Joe’s, will also observe the holiday and remain closed. Department stores like Macy’s, Burlington, and Kohl’s will be shutting down for the day as well.
While many stores will be closed on Christmas Day, some will continue to operate with reduced hours on Christmas Eve. Shoppers are encouraged to check local store hours before heading out to make sure they don’t miss out.

Where to Shop on Christmas Day
For those who still need a gift or forgot a crucial ingredient for Christmas dinner, select stores will be open on December 25, though with shorter hours. Walgreens, CVS, Giant, Bravo Supermarkets, and some Safeway locations will remain open, as will convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Casey’s General Stores, and Wawa.
A number of fast-food chains and restaurants will also be open, including McDonald’s, Starbucks, Domino’s, Denny’s, and Hooters.
Last-Minute Gift Shipping Options
As the deadline for holiday shipping fast approaches, shoppers should keep an eye on last posting dates. For those still hoping to send gifts, many USPS deadlines for Christmas delivery have already passed, but options remain through FedEx and UPS.
FedEx is offering 1-day, overnight, and same-day delivery for Christmas Eve arrival, while UPS has a cutoff for domestic next-day air delivery by December 23.
For last-minute gifts, many retailers are offering great deals, including stocking stuffers and classic Christmas cookies at Dollar Tree. Whether you’re looking for a gift or planning your holiday meal, there are still plenty of options available to make your Christmas merry and bright.
