According to Vibes.okdiario , The Social Security Administration (SSA) has completed its December SSDI payments to recipients who began collecting disability benefits before May 1997. These individuals, along with SSI recipients, received their payments on December 3. For those who started receiving disability benefits after April 30, 1997, and were born between the 1st and 10th of any month, their SSDI payment was issued on December 11, 2024.
Now, SSDI recipients should prepare for their January 2025 payments, which will reflect a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase. The average SSDI payment will rise to approximately $1,580, an increase of $38 compared to 2024. However, those with lower payments will see smaller increases. For example, if you currently receive $500 a month, your new payment will increase to about $512.50.
SSDI January Payment Schedule
The first SSDI payment of 2025, which includes the COLA increase, will be issued on January 3, 2025. This will be the first payment of the new year, as the SSI payment for January will be made on December 31, 2024.
The following Wednesday payment dates will be:
- January 8, 2025: Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- January 15, 2025: Recipients born between the 11th and 20th.
- January 22, 2025: Recipients born between the 21st and 31st.

SSDI Eligibility and Payment Amounts for January 2025
To qualify for SSDI, you must have a disability that prevents you from working for at least one year and have sufficient work credits from your previous employment. If you have not worked enough to earn the necessary credits, you will need to apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) instead.
The maximum SSDI payment for 2025 will increase to $4,018, up from $3,822. The average monthly SSDI benefit will be approximately $1,580, but the amount each recipient receives will depend on their work history, earnings, and filing age.
