Jamal Fleming, 32, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison today in U.S. District Court. His conviction stems from possessing a loaded machine gun while leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen SUV under the influence of cocaine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
High-Speed Chase and Arrest
During the pursuit, Fleming crashed the stolen SUV into a utility pole and attempted to flee on foot. However, he became ensnared in a fence and was taken into custody by law enforcement. This incident marks Fleming’s third offense related to illegal firearms possession.
Firearm Details
The weapon in question was a modified Glock 29, configured to function as a fully automatic machine gun—an illegal alteration that poses a significant risk to public safety. After his arrest, officers discovered a key fob for the stolen SUV on Fleming. Inside the vehicle, they found the loaded firearm, which contained 16 rounds of 10mm ammunition and was outfitted with a “switch” to enable rapid-fire capabilities, as well as a laser sight.

Forensic Evidence
DNA testing confirmed that the firearm belonged to Fleming, linking him directly to the weapon. Authorities also determined that the stolen SUV had been reported missing just a week earlier from an automotive repair shop in Beltsville, Maryland. This incident highlights a growing trend in vehicle thefts associated with illegal firearms trafficking.
Previous Sentencing
On December 12, 2022, Fleming was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but one year suspended, along with three years of supervised probation. At the time of his most recent arrest in October 2023, he was still on probation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
