Recipients of Social Security disability and retirement benefits are set to receive an extra payment this November, with the first disbursement occurring this week.
Individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and have been collecting Social Security benefits since before May 1997 will see their payments delivered simultaneously on Friday. Typically, these recipients receive their SSI payment on the first of the month and their Social Security payment on the third. However, this month, those checks will be issued together.
To qualify for SSI, adults and children must have limited to no income or resources, along with a disability, blindness, or be aged 65 and older. According to the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA), approximately 7.4 million people benefit from SSI.

Additionally, SSI recipients can expect a second check next month, which will arrive on November 29. It’s important to note that this is not an extra payment; instead, it will be considered part of December’s allotment.
While SSI payments are typically disbursed on the first of each month, December 1 falls on a Sunday. Since the SSA does not issue payments on weekends or federal holidays, they are advancing the payment by a couple of days to ensure recipients do not experience any financial delays.
In a blog post, the SSA stated, “We do this to avoid putting you at a financial disadvantage and make sure that you don’t have to wait beyond the first of the month to get your payment. It does not mean that you are receiving a duplicate payment in the previous month, so you do not need to contact us to report the second payment.”
