Unveiling Alaska’s Top 10 Unsafe Places in 2024

This 2024, Alaska had safety concerns in certain areas, and these were considered unsafe according to Southwest Journal. Anchorage, with its population of 288,121, is at the top of the list with a violent crime rate that nearly triples the national median and property crime statistics exceeding both state and national averages.

Next are Juneau with safety issues in downtown areas and Lemon Creek, where property crime is at 25% higher than the state average. Bethel’s violent crime rate is double the state average.  Fairbanks’ property crime rate is double that of the national average. Kodiak’s violent crime rate is twice the state average and is six times the Alaskan average in terms of crime per square mile. Rapid urbanization and infrastructural changes contribute to Wasilla’s high property crime rate. North Pole, Kenai, Ketchikan, and Sitka round out the list.
