Boston unfortunately is in the top six cities with prevalent hate crimes in the US and is one of Massachusetts’s dangerous cities. When visiting Boston’s neighborhoods, it’s best to know to avoid the cruddiest hoods and know the safe places.

Boston’s cruddiest neighborhoods

In an article from Southwest Journal, the cities you need to be cautioned of are Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, South Boston, Back Bay-Beacon Hill, Mattapan, South and North Dorchester, South End, Roxbury, and Central. The list came up by analyzing the violent and property crimes in each of the neighborhoods. These neighborhoods have poor housing conditions, lack access to health care and education, and have high unemployment rates and low-income levels.

Visiting these neighborhoods does not guarantee you’ll be a victim of crime, but it’s a high risk. Boston can improve these cruddiest neighborhoods by increasing police presence, housing improvements, and investing in local businesses

Boston’s safe place

Top of the list is a Fenway-Kenmore. It has good livability scores and a lower crime rate than most of Massachusetts. However, its vibrant nightlife can become a place of crime because of excessive partying. Boston’s Little Italy, the North End, has the lowest reported crime incidents but be warned that in the early 2000s, its cases of sexual assault on women have increased. A remarkably comfortable neighborhood is West Roxbury with a low to no likelihood of you being a crime victim. The tranquil neighborhood of Roslindale has exceptional livability, boasting that it’s safer here than 78% of cities in the state of Massachusetts. Last on the list of Southwest Journal is an artistic safe spot of Allston-Brighton. House break-ins and car break-ins are common crimes here.
