Nebraska’s Infamous Crime Duo: The Starkweather-Fugate Killing Spree

During the late 1950s, Charles Starkweather and his 14-year-old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate, unleashed a horrifying killing spree across Nebraska and Wyoming, claiming the lives of 11 individuals, including Starkweather’s high school friend and a family of three. The series of murders sent shockwaves throughout the nation, culminating in Starkweather’s execution via the electric chair in 1959.

While Fugate asserted that she was a hostage during the brutal killings, she received a life sentence, eventually being paroled in 1976. The Starkweather-Fugate crime rampage remains etched in American criminal history as one of the most notorious and chilling episodes to date.
