Massachusetts is more than its history, athletics, and intellect, as any resident would tell you. Despite its beauty, the Bay State has dangerous spots. RoadSnacks released a list of Massachusetts’ most dangerous communities for 2022, asking residents to research before making big decisions.
Massachusetts Top 10 Most Dangerous Places
The collection used facts to identify dangerous areas. The study evaluated violent and property crime in over 240 communities with populations over 5,000 using the FBI’s latest crime report. Interestingly, Massachusetts led in arson incidents but was behind in murder and serious assault.
Massachusetts didn’t make the top ten most deadly states, but Springfield was one of the most dangerous cities. The Bay State didn’t win “Most Dangerous New England State” but said its dangerous cities require community support or more police.
Holyoke, Springfield, North Adams, Worcester, Hadley, Brockton, Boston, West Springfield, Pittsfield, and Chicopee are Massachusetts’ 2023 riskiest cities. Population, violent crimes, and property crimes per 100,000 persons are used to evaluate each city. Holyoke, named the most dangerous city for three years, has a crime rate three times greater than the state average.

Massachusetts Hazard and Safety
Springfield, home to Smith & Wesson and Dr. Seuss, has the highest murder rate in Massachusetts. Due to its high burglary rate, North Adams was considered hazardous despite its cultural and recreational charms. In 2020, Worcester, the “Heart of the Commonwealth,” was the state’s fourth most dangerous city, with one murder per month.
The list illuminates each city’s crime statistics and its issues. Despite the risks, the report highlights these cities’ resilience and community, demonstrating their commitment to public safety.
