It is located just 19 miles from Albuquerque and was originally settled by the Luna family. Current residents face a high risk of property crimes, with a 1 in 24 chance, and violent crimes, with a 1 in 77 chance. Despite these concerning statistics, Los Lunas remains one of New Mexico’s wealthiest cities, making it important for affluent residents to be cautious about their belongings.

Next on the list is Roswell. It is  known for the infamous UFO incident of 1947, has gained notoriety as one of the most dangerous cities in New Mexico in 2023. Serving as the county seat of Chaves County and home to Eastern New Mexico University, Roswell has a significant issue with property theft, with larceny rates as high as 1,362. Unfortunately, Roswell not only ranks as one of the most dangerous cities but also appears on the list of the worst places to live in New Mexico, with its ranking worsening by four places from the previous year, presenting challenges for both residents and its rumored extraterrestrial inhabitants.

Lastly, Gallup. It is a town of about 22,000 in western New Mexico, has consistently ranked among the most dangerous cities in New Mexico due to high crime rates. With 437 violent crimes and 987 property crimes per 100,000 residents, the town’s crime rates exceed both state and national averages. Residents face a 1 in 58 chance of experiencing violence and a 1 in 23 chance of property crime. Vigilance and common-sense safety precautions are crucial for living in Gallup.
