Violent Argument Escalates: Witness Reports Physical Altercation Before Fatal Stabbing

According to True Crime News, a 47-year-old woman from Moorhead, Minnesota has been charged with second-degree murder after she allegedly fatally stabbed her ex-boyfriend early on August 4. Connie Jo Frank 47 is accused of killing 47-year-old Willard DeGroat following a violent argument. Police responded to a report of a stabbing on Third Avenue North shortly after midnight. They found DeGroat with a serious stab wound to the chest. He was rushed to Sanford Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities say that the 47-year-old woman who was previously in a five-year relationship with DeGroat returned to the scene shortly after the stabbing and was taken into custody. The exact details of their relationship were not disclosed by the police but it was known that the two had a troubled history. A witness reported hearing DeGroat and Frank arguing that night which escalated into a physical altercation. The witness then asked the 47-year-old woman’s adult son for help. When the witness and Frank’s son returned they found DeGroat with the stab wound and saw that Frank had left the scene.

Suspect Admits to Stabbing Ex-Boyfriend, Makes Disturbing Comments During Arrest

The 47-year-old woman allegedly admitted to police that she had been staying at her son’s house when DeGroat came over and began knocking on the windows. She claimed she went into the kitchen grabbed a knife and stabbed DeGroat once in the chest before fleeing to a neighbor’s backyard. She later returned to speak with investigators. While being transported to jail Frank reportedly made several statements including “I stabbed his a–” and “I would kill him again.” Police recovered a knife near the crime scene and obtained surveillance video showing Frank shouting at DeGroat and DeGroat calling for help. Frank is currently being held in the Clay County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings. The case highlights the serious consequences of domestic disputes and the importance of seeking help before conflicts escalate to violence.
