In Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Jesse Sartin faces charges of murder and aggravated battery after allegedly shaking his girlfriend’s 21-month-old daughter to death following a bath prompting widespread community sorrow and calls for increased awareness and prevention of child abuse.
Mother’s Boyfriend Charged with Murder and Aggravated Battery
According to the report of True Crime News, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, a terrible tragedy unfolded when a 21-month-old girl died from severe injuries allegedly caused by her mother’s boyfriend, Jesse Sartin. It started on July 24 when police responded to St. Elizabeth Hospital Dearborn, where the toddler was brought in with a suspicious head injury. Initially, Sartin said the girl fell from a chair because of their dog, but further investigation uncovered a darker truth.
According to court papers and reports from WLWT-TV, Sartin later admitted to shaking the child after she became upset during a bath saying she was flailing her arms. Doctors at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital confirmed the injuries were from abusive shaking and not a fall. Sadly, despite medical efforts and the girl passed away on August 1. Prosecutors charged Sartin with murder and aggravated battery resulting in death.

Heartbreaking Case of Alleged Child Abuse
The case has deeply upset the community with Prosecutor Lynn Deddens stressing the seriousness of the charges and the tragic loss of a young life. Sartin appeared in court on August 5 where more details of the incident emerged leaving authorities and the public struggling to comprehend the devastating impact of alleged child abuse.
Furthermore, details from the investigation paint a disturbing picture of events. In a letter to the girl’s mother, Sartin described a struggle to get her out of the bath with the child resisting and him growing increasingly frustrated. He confessed to shaking her in an attempt to calm her down. The autopsy results, showing brain swelling and severe bleeding, highlight the brutality of the attack making the girl’s death a tragic outcome of suspected domestic violence. This case underscores the urgent need for communities to be aware of and prevent child abuse ensuring the safety of vulnerable children.
