Professor Arrested for First-Degree Murder After Wife and Infant Found Dead
Police Investigate Inconsistencies in Professor’s Account of Tragic Incident
According to True Crime News, in Denver, Colorado 44-year-old professor Nicholas Myklebust has been arrested after a tragic incident at his home on North Syracuse Street. On July 29 Myklebust called 911 saying he found his wife bleeding and their 2-month-old daughter not breathing. When police arrived they found Myklebust’s wife with serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead. The baby was found dead as well but there were no visible injuries on her body.
Police noticed that Myklebust had bruises and blood on his knuckles and scratches on his neck. Myklebust said his wife must have fallen off a step ladder while he was asleep but detectives believed her injuries were not caused by a fall. He also said the scratches on his neck were due to psoriasis a condition he scratches while sleeping. Despite his explanations the evidence led to his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder.

Bond Set at $5 Million for Professor Charged with Murder Amid Past Controversy
Myklebust went to court on July 30 where a judge set his bond at $5 million. The case is also under scrutiny because the couple’s previous child died at 9 days old in 2021 from a cranial fracture and no charges were filed in that case. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office and the Denver District Attorney’s Office are continuing their investigations. Regis University where Myklebust works as an associate professor of English expressed deep sadness over the charges against him.
