Driver Flees from Deputies on Wrong-Way Ramp Before Crash
A driver was arrested on Saturday night after crashing on State Route 78 in San Marcos. The incident started around 11:30 p.m. when the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a possible stabbing in Vista. Deputies saw a speeding Honda Accord and tried to pull the driver over but the driver led them on a high-speed chase before entering SR-78 the wrong way.

Wrong-Way Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Crash in San Marcos
Deputies ended the chase for safety and notified the California Highway Patrol (CHP) about the wrong-way vehicle. About 10 minutes later reports came in of a crash on SR-78 near Rancho Santa Fe in San Marcos. Witnesses saw the driver crawl out of the wrecked car and jump into a ditch. Deputies confirmed it was the same vehicle from the earlier chase.
A sheriff’s K-9 handler gave commands at the scene and the driver was arrested without further incident. The driver was taken to Palomar Medical Center for a leg injury. Authorities later confirmed the stabbing report in Vista was false. The CHP is investigating the crash and the driver’s name has not been released, according to the report of Fox 5 San Diego.
