Community Rallies Around Little Village After Tragic Shooting, Calls for Increased Mental Health Services

In Little Village, people gathered on Sunday to pray for a 3-month-old baby and a 21-year-old man who were badly hurt in a shooting. The prayer vigil was organized by the Little Village Community Council and held near the parking lot where the shooting happened. The group prayed for peace and healing and they also talked about the need for more help and mental health services for people in the neighborhood.

Baltazar Enriquez who leads the Little Village Community Council spoke about how children in the area have been hurt by the ongoing violence. He said the community is strong and hardworking and that the shooting does not show who they really are. He also called for more mental health services to help children deal with the violence and stop it from becoming normal for them.

Residents Unite to Support Victims, Push for Better Crime Solving and Punishment

Community activist Sandra Trevino talked about the need for the police and courts to do a better job of solving crimes and punishing those responsible. She said that without consequences people who commit violence feel like they can keep doing it. Enriquez asked anyone with information about the shooting to come forward saying it was important for everyone to help get justice for the baby and the man who were hurt.
