Investigation Underway into Fatal Shooting

According to WDBJ7.com, in Botetourt County, Virginia a tragic incident unfolded involving a state trooper and a motorcyclist resulting in the fatal shooting of the motorcyclist. The events began when the trooper attempted to pull over the motorcyclist for reckless driving along Route 460 at 4:12 p.m. on July 18. Instead of complying the motorcyclist accelerated and led the trooper on a pursuit northbound on the Blue Ridge Parkway covering a distance of six miles until reaching mile marker 97.7 near Black Horse Gap.

At the parkway exit, the motorcyclist crashed into a closed gate near Black Horse Gap in Bedford. Virginia State Police reports indicate the motorcyclist then showed a firearm prompting the trooper to fire their weapon. Sadly the motorcyclist died from the gunshot wounds at the scene. The identity of the deceased hasn’t been revealed yet awaiting notification of their next of kin.

Fatal Shooting During Police Chase in Botetourt County

In Botetourt County a tragic incident unfolded when a motorcyclist crashed into a closed gate during a police chase prompting a state trooper to discharge their weapon upon seeing the motorcyclist brandish a firearm. Regrettably the motorcyclist died from the gunshot wounds at the scene. Additionally a passenger on the motorcycle sustained injuries during the crash but was reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries after receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The trooper involved in the shooting did not suffer any physical injuries and has been placed on administrative leave under standard procedures. An investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the circumstances that led to the use of deadly force. The Bedford County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office is overseeing the investigation to ensure a thorough review of the trooper’s actions for legality and appropriateness.
