Fatal Stabbings in Portland: Phillip Nelson Convicted in Apartment Dispute
Portland Apartment Dispute Ends in Tragedy: Fatal Stabbings by Phillip Nelson
A 42-year-old man named Phillip Nelson has been found guilty of stabbing two people to death in Portland. The victims, Cassy Leaton and Najaf “Nate” Hobbs, were killed because of a disagreement over renting an apartment. This decision was made by a group of people who decide if someone is guilty or not, called a jury, and announced by the district attorney’s office on April 29, according to the crime report of True Crime Daily.
The incident happened on June 16, 2020, when the police were called to Northeast Davis Street because of a possible stabbing. When they got there, they found Hobbs and Leaton dead. Hobbs died right there, but Leaton died later in the hospital. Nelson ran away before the police arrived, which made them look for him.
It turned out that Nelson wasn’t really the landlord of the building where they lived. He was just living there without permission. Everyone, including Hobbs and Leaton, thought they were renting from him. But things got worse when Nelson asked for more money from them. When they said no, Nelson turned off their water, which made things even more tense.
Things got violent when Hobbs and Leaton went to check the water valve in the basement. Nelson attacked them there with a big knife he made himself. He stabbed Leaton many times in the back and then stabbed Hobbs, who later died from his injuries.
Phillip Nelson’s Confession: Fatal Stabbings Unveiled in Portland Trial
During the trial, Nelson admitted he killed them. He said he knew he was making things worse by turning off their water, like poking a hornet’s nest. Now, Nelson is waiting to be punished for what he did. He’ll find out on May 24 what his punishment will be.
