Eureka Police Investigate Hate Crime in Arson Business Vehicle Incident

On the night of February 20th Archie Claybon III woke up to a terrible discovery his work truck crucial for his 13-year-old tiling business was set on fire in Humboldt County. The police treats it as a hate crime because someone spray-painted a racial slur on the truck. Claybon thinks they did it because he is Black as suggested by his last name. He compared it to the modern version of putting a burning cross in his yard highlighting how racism is sadly a part of daily life.

Archie Claybon Faces Racially Motivated Attack on Work Truck Amidst Code Enforcement Interactions

As the investigation goes on in Arson business vehicle incident Claybon is unsure about why someone would do this to his truck. Recently Eureka Code Enforcement had been in touch with him about moving the truck every 72 hours. Despite his efforts to comply and conversations with the property owner, his truck was still targeted. For Claybon, the financial loss is tough but what hurts more is the racial insult especially happening during Black History Month  making the incident even more painful.
