Racist Stabbing at Tartinery in Grand Central Terminal
At Tartinery in Grand Central Terminal on Christmas Day at 11:30 a.m., two South American adolescent girls were enjoying lunch with their parents when something strange happened. Steven Hutcherson, 36, a Bronx resident with a criminal record, was asked to leave by Tartinery workers due to his disruptive conduct.
Hutcherson reportedly said, “I want all the white people dead” and complained about the girls eating. His rage caused him to whip out a knife and stab both girls, injuring the 16-year-old in the back and grazing her lung and the 14-year-old in the thigh.
After being transferred to Bellevue Hospital, the victims’ injuries were non-life-threatening. As of Tuesday afternoon, their status has not been updated. Despite his arrests, Hutcherson’s identity remains unknown. Metro Transit Authority personnel arrested him within 30 seconds of the incident. Hutcherson faces felony accusations of attempted murder, assault, weapon possession, and possible hate crime for his racist statements.

Authorities think he had no previous relationship with the victims.
Hutcherson’s third arrest in six months involves firearms and resisting arrest. He falsely claimed to have a pistol in July and November and was caught with a dagger and switchblade. Hutcherson pleaded guilty to both counts and received a 15-day sentence for the July incident and a conditional discharge with a restraining order for the November incident at his home. He was detained 17 times by MTA and NYPD, with many reports calling him “emotionally disturbed.”
