Demonstrators in support of Palestinians march during a protest in New York on October 9, 2023. Israel imposed a total siege on the Gaza Strip Monday and cut off the water supply as it kept bombing targets in the crowded Palestinian enclave in response to the Hamas surprise assault it has likened to the 9/11 attacks. Reeling from the Islamist group's unprecedented ground, air and sea attacks, Israel has counted more than 700 dead and launched a withering barrage of strikes on Gaza that have raised the death toll there to 560 people. Anti-Israel protesters block traffic in New York City and say the US is responsible for “genocide” in Gaza.

On Monday afternoon, large groups of pro-Palestinian protesters slowed down traffic in New York City. Hundreds of protesters in Gaza walked into traffic lanes to call for an end to the fighting. To show their support, many people brought Palestinian flags and posters that said “From Gaza to Jenin, Revolution until Victory” and “Support the Palestinian Resistance.”

The protest started at Grand Central Station and went to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. It looked like it was going to keep going to Penn Station. They talked about how the U.S. was partly to blame for what they called the “genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza in a video from the event. They stressed the need to protect the Palestinian people.

Last month, an anti-Israel group slowed down the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City by yelling, “Palestine will be free.” Some of them even sat down in the street along the parade route.
