Wichita Police Department’s K-9 Bane Tragically Strangled in Line of Duty Pursuit
According to source, in Kansas, a police dog named Bane, an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois utilized by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in high-risk situations, allegedly met a tragic end when authorities claim he was strangled during the pursuit of a suspect who fled into a storm drain. The memorial service for Bane is scheduled for next week, with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office organizing a livestreamed event to honor the fallen K-9. The accused perpetrator, currently held on over $1 million bond, faces charges, including battery against a law enforcement officer and harming or killing certain dogs.
The incident unfolded when officers of the Wichita Police Department, seeking the suspect in connection with a domestic battery case, located him on November 16. The suspect attempted to evade arrest by running into a creek bed and entering a large storm drain.
Subsequently, both Bane and another K-9 from the Wichita Police Department were released on extended leashes into the storm drain. Tragically, authorities allege that the suspect strangled Bane, leading to a futile attempt at resuscitation by first responders that lasted for 30 to 40 minutes. Fortunately, the other K-9 from the Wichita Police Department emerged unharmed.

Court Appearance for Suspect Accused of Strangling Wichita Police Department K-9 Bane
Tragically, authorities allege that the suspect strangled Bane, leading to a futile attempt at resuscitation by first responders that lasted for 30 to 40 minutes. Fortunately, the other K-9 from the Wichita Police Department emerged unharmed.
The accused individual made his first appearance in court this week, facing charges related to the alleged battery against a law enforcement officer and the harm or killing of the police dog. Bane, who had previously served with the Wichita Police Department, lost his handler to cancer last year, adding a poignant layer to the somber events surrounding his untimely death in the line of duty.
