In a complaint, a woman claims that comedian, singer, and actor Jamie Foxx sexually molested her at a rooftop bar in New York in 2015. Foxx claims the incident “never happened.”
A woman identified in the court filings only as Jane Doe filed a case on Wednesday in the state Supreme Court in Manhattan, claiming that Foxx had touched her breasts and peered down her trousers without her consent.
According to the lawsuit, in 2015, she was sitting at a table next to Foxx’s restaurant, Catch NYC, with a buddy. According to the claim, the woman asked Foxx for a picture, and the two women took multiple photos with him. According to the report, he then started praising her “supermodel body” and telling her that she resembled actor Gabrielle Union.
Then, according to the suit, he grasped her by the arm and led her to a private space where he caressed her breasts with both hands tucked beneath her crop top. The lawsuit further claims that while Foxx reached inside her pants and grabbed her genitalia, she attempted to get away from him.
The suit claims that when the woman’s companion discovered them, he stopped, and the woman left.
A Foxx representative confirmed in a statement to CBS News on Thursday that “the alleged incident never happened.”
The statement said, “This individual filed a nearly identical lawsuit in Brooklyn in 2020.” “That case was dismissed shortly thereafter. The claims are no more viable today than they were then. We are confident they will be dismissed again. And once they are, Mr. Foxx intends to pursue a claim for malicious prosecution against this person and her attorneys for re-filing this frivolous action.”
According to the claim, the woman is requesting damages that will be decided at trial.
This week, numerous lawsuits were filed in New York under the Adult Survivors Act, a temporary statute of limitations that permits adult victims of alleged sexual assaults to file lawsuits. After Thursday, the law became obsolete.
Rapper and businessman Sean “Diddy” Combs was sued last week in federal court by singer Casandra Ventura, who goes by the stage name Cassie. Ventura claims that Combs assaulted and sexually molested her throughout their roughly 2007–2018 relationship.
One day after the lawsuit was filed, the two parties came to an agreement.
Unless they come out publicly, the Associated Press usually does not name anyone who claims they have been sexually abused.
Cassie Ventura Reaches Settlement in Lawsuit Alleging Abuse and Rape by Ex-Boyfriend Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
Just one day after filing a federal lawsuit in New York against musician and businessman Sean “Diddy” Combs, singer Casandra Ventura—better known by her stage name Cassie—reached a settlement, her lawyer confirmed in a statement. In the lawsuit, Ventura accused Combs of sexual assault and physical abuse during their relationship.
“I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control. I want to thank my family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support,” Ventura said in a statement.
As per Combs’ statement, “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably.” “I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”
Ben Brafman, a lawyer for Combs, clarified, saying in a second statement given to CBS News Saturday: “Mr. Combs’ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best.” “Just so we’re clear, a decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing.”
The settlement’s terms were kept a secret.
In the Thursday-filed complaint, the 54-year-old Combs was characterized as a “vicious, cruel, and controlling man” who “asserted complete control over Ms. Ventura’s personal and professional life.” The complaint also detailed the abuse that Combs allegedly inflicted on Ventura following their 2005 meeting at the age of 19, when the singer was signed to his label.
The two intermittently date between 2007 and 2018.
Ventura had said in a statement to CBS News on Thursday, “After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships.” “With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life.”
The lawsuit made several accusations against Combs, claiming that he “often punched, beat, kicked, and stomped on Ms. Ventura, resulting in bruises, burst lips, black eyes, and bleeding,” that he sexually assaulted her in her home after she tried to leave him, and that in 2012, he destroyed rapper Kid Cudi’s vehicle after learning that Ventura was his romantic interest.
On behalf of Combs, Brafman refuted the accusations in a statement released on Thursday, asserting that Ventura had tried to extort $30 million from him.
In a statement to CBS News, Brafman said, “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.” “For the past 6 months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail.”
Ventura’s attorney refuted Brafman’s allegation, stating that Combs had offered her “eight-figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit.”
A speedy settlement is beneficial for all parties, according to Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Law School and legal contributor for CBS News. “For Sean Combs, he doesn’t want this to drag out; he doesn’t want us to keep talking about the allegations against him.”
