A 12-year-old boy carrying a loaded handgun into a convenience store is accused of biting an Atlantic City police officer who attempted to detain him.
During the struggle the boy bit Officer Grams, causing him to injure his hand
The boy was seen entering a convenience store Thursday with what appeared to be a pistol in his waistband. Police said the boy repeatedly tried to reach for the gun and once bit an officer’s hand causing the officer to injure his hand.
A fight ensued inside the convenience store as the officers caught up with the small gunman. A second police officer arrives to help arrest the precocious youth. Police said the boy tried to reach for the gun several times during the altercation which slipped out of the waistband and landed on the bottom of his pants.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident inside the convenience store and how the child obtained the gun
The responding officer heard and witnessed more gunfire near the convenience store as he approached and ordered the boys to raise both hands. The officer tied the boy to handcuffs and placed him in the back of the police car according to authorities.
It is unclear how the boy got the gun into the convenience store or who owned it but the gun and ammunition were recovered from the scene and the case is still under investigation. Young children are very curious. Even if you’ve talked to them many times about gun safety, they still don’t understand how dangerous guns are.
