RENO, Nevada (AP) -A 36-year-old man has been convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend in 2020 on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Reservation while his children were watching.
Court documents and evidence presented at trial indicated it was the victim’s boyfriend
Investigators say Michael Burciaga confessed to the murder when he returned to the scene hours after he self-harmed. He will face life in prison when sentenced on September 25. Prosecutors say he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times with at least two knives at her home in Nixon, northeast of Reno, in December 2020. The FBI said the victim’s 15-year-old daughter, one of three children in the home at the time, called police to report that her mother’s boyfriend had stabbed her. Burciaga returned home while the Pyramid Lake Tribal Police investigated, telling them, “I knew what happened and I know what I did.”
According to the affidavit, Mr. Burciaga questioned police several times about his girlfriend’s condition
Davis’ daughter said in an interview that her brother woke her around midnight and told her that Burciaga had stabbed her mother. The children found their surviving mother in the master bedroom and barricaded the door with the dresser. According to the affidavit, Burciaga quickly banged on the top half of the door, and Davis grabbed a stick and began clapping to stop him from entering the room, but eventually broke through, according to the affidavit.
