A man who killed a restaurateur was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
The statutory minimum sentence for Harris is just over 23 years in prison
The West Palm Beach News reported on Friday that Harris’ attorney and a forensic psychologist in the defense spoke on behalf of Harris in court. Psychologists testified that Harris repented. Michael Harris Jr. was convicted after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Bobby Scott whose brutally beaten body was discovered in a wooded area in DeLand, Florida. Lesa Hall, the victim’s sister, urged the judge to impose a maximum sentence of 50 years, the newspaper reported.
Judge Elizabeth Blackburn accepted the defense’s testimony that Mr. Harris had had a difficult life
The authorities said Harris brutally attacked his victims and made many very conscious decisions and actions. When Scott didn’t return home, her husband told authorities he hadn’t seen or spoken to Scott since he left. Harris was arrested while driving Scott’s bloody 2019 Chevrolet Blazer SUV after being GPS-located on a highway in eastern DeLand, according to court documents.
