Shortly after the shooting, police arrested Stanford at an apartment complex. He was charged with murder and his bail was set at $1 million.
Bradley Jacob Stanford was taken into custody earlier this month and charged with murder in connection with the murder of Akira Ross
A 23-year-old Texas man has been arrested on suspicion of yelling homophobic slurs and shooting dead a 24-year-old gay woman he didn’t know in a gas station parking lot. When they arrived at the scene first responders said they saw a black Nissan sedan on one of the gas pumps. Next to the car, Ross was found “lying on his back in a puddle of dark red blood.” Stanford entered the store and showed up less than two minutes later. According to police, he could be seen returning to his car, taking something inside, and tucking it into the waistband of his shorts.
It was not clear from court records whether Stanford had retained an attorney
Ross’s girlfriend entered the store as Ross stood outside the driver’s door. Officers could see Stanford walking towards Ross and the two appeared to be exchanging words, police wrote. Ross who appeared “agitated” after the exchange, then entered the store.
Ross’s girlfriend told police that when Ross entered the store, she said Stanford was “swinging a gun” in the parking lot.
