Jordan Neely’s strangulation murder had nothing to do with race

Daniel Penney has spoken publicly about the incident for the first time in a series of videos released by his attorney. Photos and videos of Penny strangling Jordan Neely a 30-year-old homeless man in an F-Train last month went viral following Neely’s death. The coroner concluded the cause of death was “compression in the neck.” The crash on the train began when Neely began yelling at other strap hangers and throwing trash. Penny said she could not elaborate on what happened next due to pending lawsuits.

Civil rights activists say Penny tried to strangle Neely that day because of racism. Penny calls these claims ridiculous

Eyewitnesses and footage of the death said Penny grabbed Neely by the neck and fell to the ground as second and third men tried to hold him down. Penny claimed the conversation with Neely took less than five minutes. I have never seen a black man threaten a passenger. I have seen a man threaten a passenger. The men were people of color Penny explained. Penny turned himself in to authorities on May 12 after Manhattan prosecutors charged him with second-degree manslaughter.
