Portuguese police have announced that the search for British infant Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in the Algarve in 2007, will resume in the next few days.
Portuguese police have announced they are reopening the search for Madeleine McCann
In the early hours of Monday, police were seen setting up tents and cordons in an area near Aladedam, about 50 kilometers from Praia da Luz, where the three-year-old was last found alive. The Portuguese Criminal Police issued a statement confirming local media reports that the search would be carried out in the presence of British police at the request of German authorities. British, Portuguese, and German police are still reconstructing what happened when a toddler disappeared from his bed on 3 May 2007 at a resort in southern Portugal.
While her parents were having dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant, she was in the same room as her twin brother, who was 2 years old, and her sister.
A 45-year-old German national was in the Algarve in 2007 as a suspect in a case
In mid-2020, German police identified Christian Bruckner. He is being investigated for murder in the McCann case, but no charges have been filed. He spent many years in Portugal, including in Praia da Luz at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. Madeleine’s disappearance has drawn worldwide attention. Public allegations have been made as far away as Australia, as have many books and television documentaries about the case. Rewards for finding Madeleine amounted to millions of dollars.
