A former ‘teacher of the year’ has been accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy, and authorities believe there may be more victims.
Math teacher Tracy Vanderhulst has been charged with illicit sex with a minor
Details of crimes against children and the Yucaipa Police Department were investigating allegations of illicit sex with a minor by a teacher at Yucaipa High School. Investigators identified Vanderhulst as a suspect and sent her to Central Detention Center in lieu of $30,000 bail. Investigators and the Yucaipa Calimesa Unified School District worked together to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter was completed. Authorities did not say if the boy was a student. Still they suspect Vanderhulst may have had other illegitimate encounters.
Law & Crime left Yucaipa High School a request for comment regarding Vanderhulst’s employment status
Tracy Vanderhulst was named Yucaipa High School Teacher of the Year because she embodies the kind of educator that so many people aspire to be, said Sherry, who was then assistant director of human resources for the Yucaipa-Calimesa Unified School District. She is a kind and innovative teacher from whom we hope we can help our children grow. She is an educator who strives to reach all students, from intervention classes to honors classes.
