An incident in Florida saddened the community as a 2-year-old Florida child tragically lost her life after allegedly being left alone in a scorching hot car for 14 hours.

2-Year-Old Florida Child Dies in Hot Car

The parents of the 2-year-old Florida child, Kathreen Adams, 23, and Christopher McLean, 32, are now facing charges of child neglect, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the devastating event took place in the Prosperity community.

According to Sheriff John Tate, the parents left the sleeping 2-year-old Florida child in the car seat and went inside, where they unintentionally fell asleep.

It wasn’t until the afternoon, around 3:41 PM, that they realized their grave mistake.

Deputies were summoned to the scene following a distressing 911 call made from the family home. Despite the efforts of first responders, who promptly initiated life-saving measures, the 2-year-old Florida child was pronounced dead by EMS shortly thereafter.

Parents of 2-Year-Old Florida Child Were Arrested

During the investigation, Adams admitted that she purposely left the 2-year-old Florida child in the car overnight, PEOPLE reported.

McLean, on the other hand, declined to provide a statement or cooperate with the authorities at that time, invoking his rights.

Pending the results of blood samples, both parents are awaiting further legal consequences. Additionally, a search warrant executed at their residence reportedly uncovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, leading to the likelihood of additional charges.

Authorities are also awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the exact cause of death of the 2-year-old Florida child.

Meanwhile, the 4-year-old sibling of the deceased 2-year-old Florida child has been placed under the care of the Department of Children and Families, ensuring their safety and well-being during this distressing time.
