More Police Officers Will Be Hired

The crime rate in Southern California continues to increase after the City Council approved last year to cut police officers in Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in favor of more unarmed security ambassadors. However, they reversed their decision this year and will hire more police officers.

In a published article in FOX News, the West Hollywood City Council voted 4-0 in favor of adding more police officers while one council member chose to abstain. Moreover, there is a possibility to add more police officers in the future if crime continues to be an issue in the area and will affect the neighborhood and operation of the different businesses.

A store owner told a news outlet on Monday shortly after the decision of the City Council, “Seeing my staff crying, coming to work and not being able to feel safe in the city, it makes me responsible to be here in front of you and ask you for help.”

Increase of Crime Rate in West Hollywood

According to a report published in ABC7, the crime rate in West Hollywood sharply increase especially in robbery and burglary as the year 2022 came to a close. There were recorded crimes last month that rattled the residents in the community.

City Council member and Mayor Pro Tempore John Erickson said, I think what we’ve been hearing for the last six months as well as most recently with some of the news stories about public safety incidents is that people don’t feel safe and that’s however they want to define that and explain for themselves.”

He also added, I think what we saw last night is everyone really expressing their own opinion, their own viewpoints, but at the end of the day, we all came together and compromised and voted accordingly. I’m really proud of the city and everyone that serves on that council for sure.”
