Elderly Couple Tragically Killed in Kansas City Street Racing Incident
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Authorities have identified the victims of a fatal crash caused by an illegal street race in southern Kansas City earlier this week. Verne Zugenbuhler, 91, and Diane Zugenbuhler, 72, lost their lives in the collision on Monday at Wornall Road and Carondelet Drive.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, the incident began when two vehicles, a black Chrysler 300 and a silver Dodge, engaged in a high-speed race starting at West 99th Street and Wornall Road.
The Chrysler 300, speeding south on Wornall Road, struck the Zugenbuhlers’ vehicle as they attempted to turn onto Carondelet Drive. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chrysler sustained injuries in the crash, but the condition and whereabouts of the driver of the silver Dodge remain unclear.
As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
