Three men were arrested by Columbus police following a shooting incident that resulted in a teenage boy being hospitalized.
Rufus Neal, a 25-year-old individual, surrendered himself to law enforcement officers on Monday evening. He is currently facing charges of three counts of aggravated assault and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling.
That same night, the department’s SWAT team apprehended Demarcus Moore, 24, and Johnathan Courington, 20, and filed charges against them for being accomplices after the fact.
On December 23, a shooting incident occurred in the 1700 block of Bell Avenue in Columbus. The police were called to the scene due to a family disturbance that escalated into gunfire. As a result, several arrests were made involving the Columbus men.
The 17-year-old shooting victim was brought to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where a doctor immediately attended to the teen. The doctor observed that the teenager had sustained a single gunshot wound.
The teenager was later transported by helicopter to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for additional medical care.
