According to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office, Christopher English, a 44-year-old man, was found guilty last week of first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
In 2019, Mia Collins was driving a stolen BMW sport utility vehicle while English was in the passenger seat. They led officers on a chase, which ended when the car collided with another car and an SUV at an intersection after about one mile.
70-year-old Maria Wood and 12-year-old Rosemary McElroy were tragically killed in the crash, while 36-year-old Jenny Wood, a beloved Wichita musician who often performed with children, was left critically injured. The driver responsible for the accident, Collins, has been sentenced to life in prison.
According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, English has a history of prior convictions related to drugs and weapons. The district attorney’s office has set his sentencing date for January 10th.
