A Texas man accused of shooting and killing his neighbor just days before Thanksgiving was enraged over loud music, according to reports.
After a shooting on Sunday night, authorities arrested Caspian Swinney, 26, on Monday. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Swinney allegedly shot his father numerous times with a revolver after the two men got into a disagreement. The scene pronounced the father dead.
NBC DFW identified the victim as Oscar “Beto” Lopez, whose wife claimed that Lopez’s loud music was the cause of the altercation.
“I walk out the back door while calling him and as I’m walking up to the truck, I can see his legs on the ground and for some reason I really, I thought it was a joke. I did not think it was real,” Amanda Fernicola, Lopez’s wife, told the station.
“When they tell you that saying about screaming bloody murder, that is literally what I did that night. I literally screamed and screamed and screamed,” she continued.
Fernicola claimed that Swinney had previously complained about their music. She stated that in the security tape from the incident, she could hear the neighbor begging her husband to turn down the music.
“It’s supposed to be a happy time and I can’t be happy right now,” Fernicola told NBC DFW.
The Tarrant County Correctional Center is imprisoning Swinney on a murder charge.
According to a GoFundMe page set up to support Lopez’s family and cover his funeral expenses, the father leaves behind a 5-year-old son and a newborn who is just over three months old.
