The San Francisco 49ers pulled off a comfortable 32-19 victory over the New York Jets, showcasing their high-octane offense and suffocating defense in the blowout win.
While there were a few things still to clean up, it was definitely a strong performance to open the season against a team that many viewed as playoff hopefuls in 2024.
Now, looking ahead to Week 2, the 49ers will go on the road for a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, who handily beat the New York Giants 28-6 in their season debut this weekend.
In the matchup, San Francisco will see a familiar face in quarterback Sam Darnold, who earned the starting job for Minnesota, throwing for 208 yards and two touchdowns in the opener.
So, heading on the road, how are the 49ers seen, odds-wise, against the Vikings in Week 2?
Heading into the season opener, the 49ers are opening as 6.5-point favorites against the Vikings, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, with the over/under set at 45.5 points.
San Francisco was without star running back Christian McCaffrey in Week 1, who was a surprise scratch due to the calf and Achilles injuries that he had been dealing with heading into the year.
His availability could alter the line, but it’s currently unclear whether he’ll be able to go this weekend. However, in his absence, backup running back Jordan Mason had a career day, going for 147 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, showing that he is capable of carrying the load if necessary.
The Vikings had a strong rushing attack in Week 1, led by free-agent signee Aaron Jones, who had 94 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Additionally, their defense allowed just six points, limiting Giants quarterback Daniel Jones to 186 yards and two interceptions on a 52 percent completion rate while sacking him five times.
This one should be a fun early-season battle for the 49ers, who will get their first taste of a road game here in Week 2 against what seems like an underrated Vikings team from the outside looking in.
