49ers news: Niners embarrass Aaron Rodgers and the Jets 32-19

This was supposed to be a game between two powerhouses. The New York Jets did not stop the San Francisco 49ers from scoring after the first drive. The Niners scored on eight drives after punting on their first possession.

Brock Purdy had one drive in the third quarter that got away from him, but he was otherwise outstanding and made plays while playing within the structure of the offense. Purdy finished 19-for-29 for 231 yards, averaging eight yards per attempt.

Jauan Jennings led the 49ers in receiving yards with 64, but it was even across the board as Deebo Samuel had 54, Kyle Juszczyk had 40, and George Kittle had 40. The receiver the 49ers paid a boatload of money to only had 28, but it looked like a rusty game for Brandon Aiyuk.

For all of those weapons, tonight was about Jordan Mason, who ran for 147 yards on 28 carries. After a slow start, the offensive line cranked it up and established their will both on the ground and and by keeping Purdy clean.

The defense was not too shabby, either. They limited Aaron Rodgers to 167 passing yards, and the Jets to 2.3 yards per carry before the final drive that bumped that number up to 3.4. Garrett Wilson had 52 yards, and Breece Hall stayed under 100 yards from scrimmage. That was a win for the 49ers as Nick Sorensen made his debut as a coordinator.

The 49ers did only go 2-for-5 in the red zone offensively, and needed Jake Moody to kick six field goals. Defensively, they allowed the Jets to convert on 60 percent of their tries. Those are the two areas the 49ers need to clean up in an otherwise impressive statement victory over a team that’s perceived to be the best in the league.
