The San Francisco 49ers return home and will have added ammunition with George Kittle and Deebo Samuel active. The Niners haven’t had trouble scoring, although the red zone offense could stand to get better.
The side of the ball that must improve and become more consistent is on defense. The prevailing thought was the Niners would be a bend-but-don’t-break unit. Things have been too easy for opposing offenses, especially in the second half.
The Patriots aren’t explosive on the ground or through the air. They don’t look to push the ball down the field. And while they run the ball a lot, it’s not overly efficient. The loss of Javon Hargrave won’t go unnoticed, but this should be the type of game where the 49ers defensive line takes control.
As for the Niners’ offense, the weapons and quarterback play of Brock Purdy should be more than enough to outscore New England.
