49ers-Patriots Week 4 odds: Niners open as massive favorites at home

The San Francisco 49ers dropped their second straight game of the season in Week 3, falling short in a 27-24 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, who won off a game-winning field goal.

It was another ugly contest for the 49ers, who made one too many mistakes, ultimately losing the game to a short-handed Rams team that got their first win of the season.

Now, looking ahead to Week 4, the 49ers are returning home for a matchup with the New England Patriots, who are coming off a 24-3 loss on Thursday Night Football to the New York Jets, falling to 1-2 as well.

San Francisco last played New England back in 2020, and will look to get back on track at Levi’s Stadium this weekend.

So, coming back home, how are the 49ers seen, odds-wise, against the Patriots in Week 4?

Heading into next weekend’s matchup, the 49ers are opening as 10.5-point favorites against the Patriots, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, with the over/under set at 39.5 points.

Given how low the projected total is, the 49ers are massive favorites heading into this one, but that was also the case in Week 3, where San Francisco was a 7.5-point road favorite and we saw how that one turned out.

The 49ers will likely be without some of their stars once again, as Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey won’t be present, while George Kittle’s status is unclear after he missed this weekend’s game with a hamstring injury.

San Francisco will need to defend the run against Patriots back Rhamondre Stevenson, who started the year hot before struggling against the Jets in Week 3, accumulating just 23 rushing yards, while fumbling once as well.

Additionally, it’ll be important to get pressure on quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who struggled when facing the heat last Thursday, with the Jets generating seven sacks on the day.

The Patriots played in a couple of close games to begin the year, upsetting the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 before falling short in overtime to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. After an ugly loss to the Jets this past week, they’ll be looking to bounce back as well, but face a tall task ahead of them with San Francisco next up.

The 49ers will look to get back on track here in Week 4, looking to snap their two-game losing streak and create some momentum during their short home stretch, which starts with the Patriots and ends with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.
