San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner had the game of a lifetime against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.
Warner had nine tackles, six of which were “stops,” or plays that constitute as a loss for the offense. Per NFL pro, three of those were hustle stops — which is when a player covers 20+ yards during the play from snap to tackle. Warner also had a sack, a pair of quarterback pressures, an interception, and a forced fumble in the red zone to take points off the board on two separate possessions.
Sunday was one of the better games you’ll see from any defensive player at any position all season. Fred Warner made an impact on 1 out of every 5 plays. The 49ers have a special, special player. It’s not new news, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate greatness. pic.twitter.com/nXUSc5sqAi

Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates had a game-sealing interception against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. He also has 12 tackles and a pass breakup. That’s who won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 2. Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson had 4.5 sacks against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was also in contention.
Warner and Hutchinson were on the losing end, likely leading to them losing out on the award. But if we’re thinking in terms of impact, you’d be hard-pressed to vote against Warner
