The San Francisco 49ers saw their first loss of the season in Week 3, as they dropped a 23-17 road contest to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, falling to 1-1 on the year.
After a dominant start to the year, San Francisco saw mistakes compound in Week 2, as turnovers, sacks, and execution issues led to a rough outing against a well-coached Vikings team.
Now, looking ahead to Week 3, the 49ers will go on the road for a matchup with their division rival, the Los Angeles Rams, who are coming off a brutal 41-10 beatdown by the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.
San Francisco has dominated the series as of late, winning nine of the last 11 matchups, with one of the two losses coming in Week 18 last season when both teams deployed their backups for a meaningless game.
So, heading on the road, how are the 49ers seen, odds-wise, against the Rams in Week 3?
Heading into next weekend’s matchup, the 49ers are opening as 7.5-point favorites against the Rams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, with the over/under set at 45.5 points.
San Francisco will look to bounce back and are clear favorites in the matchup, as home teams are usually given a three-point advantage, and yet the 49ers are still more than touchdown favorites to open Week 3.
The 49ers have come out of their first two games healthy, which is important, and could potentially return safety Talanoa Hufanga to the fold after he missed the first two games while still recovering from his torn ACL.
Los Angeles, on the other hand, is in a rough situation, as they’ve now lost their first two games of the season, with injuries coming left and right for the Rams.
The Rams are dealing with serious blows to their starting offensive line, but will return left tackle Alaric Jackson back after he was suspended for the first two games. Still, Los Angeles will likely be without both of their star receivers, with Puka Nacua going on Injured Reserve, while Cooper Kupp left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury in the first half.
Defensively, the Rams are still a work in progress as they operate in the post-Aaron Donald world, and their unit got beaten up in Week 2, with the Cardinals pouring 41 points at home, thanks to a stellar performance from quarterback Kyler Murray.
The 49ers will look to get back on track here in Week 3 before returning home for a two-game stretch against the New England Patriots and the Cardinals in the ensuing weeks.
